A private do-it-yourself project was the topic of last week’s internal “colloquium” at Moeller Medical.
Chris Traxler showed how he designed and built a climbing net for his children in the shape of a 7 x 5 x 10 meters (!) pirate ship. The project turned out to be surprisingly complicated, from the CAD design, via numerical simulations of optimal rope lengths and tensions, and the statical soundness of the structure, to the precise measurement of tree positions within his garden, using only tools obtainable in any home improvement store.
Our “colloquia” are a series of talks about all sorts of things, not necessarily related to immediate business matters, roughly taking place once every 6 weeks. For all participant except the speaker, the talk is taking place in their free time.
As always, the talk was well attended and great fun.
